Term 1 Week 6: Violent Volcanoes!

On the 23rd of February we went to the science room to make some volcanoes!
We got a glass and put 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of dishwashing liquid into the glass bottle. Then in a different cup we put about half a cup of vinegar in and also some drops of red food colouring to make the 'lava'. Then we mixed them together.
Then we decorated the glass bottles with coloured paper to make them look like volcanoes and the we spread newspaper thickly over the desks. Next we got a baking pan and put it under our bottle on the table so that it would catch most of the mess.
Then one by one we used a funnel and put the vinegar and the food colouring in. Then.....   Boom! The baking soda, vinegar, vinegar and dishwashing liquid exploded out. It was really fun to watch!
Later when everyone had put in their vinegar we tidied up and packed away our equipment. Afterwards when we were back in the classroom we recapped what we had done. It was really fun and the best experiment ever!!!!
